Avarte and his mean land on the island of Darlen. It was a rock, but he knew that on the other side was a couple of villas for high ranking officers in the Imperial navy. His people landed beside him. He looked back at the flames burning the sky behind them. There was a giant dark shape blotting out the fire that Avarte knew he did not want to meet.

Avatre inhaled deeply, looking around. "We'll go over the plan one last time! Wings one through three, go high into the sky and wait until you see us engage. Then, land in the Imperial ranks and throw them into chaos. We need to do this quick- clean doesn't matter. Go! The rest of you, keep low and strike fast. We need the ships intact- not the soldiers." Avatre launched himself into the air and flew low over the ground with the majority of the Ifreanti, while sixty of them flew high into the air, waiting to carry out their orders. When they were within visual range of the navy, they raised their weapons, or claws for those unarmed, and let out a roar.

As they flew over the top of the rock the villas all seemed empty but there were two medium sized ships docked at the harbor.

Avatre let out a shrill whistle, the signal to pause. "Something doesn't look right here. Lower your weapons, let's get a closer look." He knew the wings high above would likely not hear the signal, and be waiting to attack at the sign of combat. The rest of the Ifreanti followed Avatre closer to the ships. "Is anyone here?"

The ships did not reply to his query. Neither did anyone else.

Avatre signaled for them to take flight, landing on the decks. "Search the ships. Parties of three, weapons ready. Report back if you find anything."

The ships were empty, but the villas had twenty men hanging from the roof of one building.

Avatre watched the swaying bodies with a trained eye, undaunted by the sight. Avatre let out a pair of high whistles, signaling for the circling wings to land. "Cut them down, see how they died, and search the villas. The rest of you, get these ships ready to sail."

The ships were soon ready, but they had been stripped of supplies. The men reported that they thought it was suicide.

"Suicide? Must have faced the creatures. Three parties of ten, I'll lead. Search the island and look for supplies, and what could have caused this. Wing four, keep in the sky and let us know if you see anything." Avatre unsheathed his sword and jumped from the ship, beginning his search.

They searched and found that the place had been picked bare. There seemed to be none of the creatures around at all.

Avatre regrouped with the Ifreanti and paced back and forth angrily. "Someone find a map, look for any islands nearby we can check. We may have to set sail with no supplies and find some on the way."

There were charts on the ship. They showed that there were no islands between where he was and the Sea of Souls.

Avatre muttered angrily, shaking his head. He checked for any islands nearby that wouldn't take them more than a few days out of their way.

There were islands further to the south, but that was closer to the Great Port of Daerlune. Daerlune was known for its large shipyards, and had a strong presence of the Imperial navy.
