What is the name of your race?
Igniavi (Pronounced Ig KNEE ay vai)
What does your race look like?
Petit and small as humans, having not needed very developed human bodies due to their magical powers. They have red hair and golden eyes, matching the colouring they have in their phoenix forms, which are far larger, twice the height tall of the average man. All the Igniavi have red hair, but the shade of it is dependent on lifespan and power, the darker the shade, the more powerful the phoenix is. In human form their bodies are always perfectly formed, not having to eat means they never overeat, and the conversion of energy means that they are all lightly muscled but never looking very physically strong. Oddly, considering they need the sun, they are pale, not tanned, as the sun energy they absorb goes straight to energy, rather than taken into tan the skin. In their phoenix forms, they take the appearance of very large birds of prey, with flames coming off their tails and plumage in red and gold, to match the colouring of their feathers.
How is your race organized?
They functioned as a pure democracy, with no one having power over anyone else, and all decisions being made collectively. That was until they were enslaved, in which all kinds of organisational structure were rendered redundant. Since the coming of the Elder Gods, the three non-enthralled naturally developed an authority chain, with one as the natural leader for making quick decisions, though they do usually keep faith with their majority rules voting.
How many of your race remain?
Three that are free from being enthralled by the Elder Gods. Named Seraph, Lintern and Valgas
What are the powers of your people?
Immortality via rebirth, fire control, creation and absorption, ability to become fire instant regeneration, extended lifespan before rebirth, increased physical strength and endurance, heatproof, great healing powers in others, flight.
What is the reputation of your people with others?
Before their defeat at the hands of the Wizards, they were considered an aloof and mysterious race, cold to anyone who was not them, and not bothering to leave their island much. They knew nothing of and cared less for the customs of others, and few knew of theirs. Growing cold over the thousands of years of being alive, and seeing other races they liked and respected come and go.
In dire situations of ill health and injury, people would venture to the Phoenixes Island, Ignaterra, in order to attempt to get healed. Success was largely based on the mood of the Igniavi approached and also the quality of the gift brought. The only time they ever bothered with trade was in pretty trinkets, which fascinated them to a point.
What was your people's role in the old Empire?
Slaves. One of the last races to be included into the empire, their need for independence was so great they refused any and all possible offers to join peaceably, and were eventually conquered within the last two hundred years, the whole race being enslaved and sold to work dual lives, half the time in the forges, underground, the rest of the surface working as your average slaves, doing whatever their masters required of them. Obedience was ensured by the application of magic collars.
What is your people's diet?
They do not eat food, but do need to take in water. Their energy comes from sunlight and heat, sunlight being the more important of the two. They can survive in just the heat, but it makes the grumpy an extremely irritable. They can physically eat and swallow food, but it gives them nothing, so they often don’t bother, but in human form they are drawn to certain tastes.
What are the legends of your people?
Being immortal negates the need for many legends, though they do have a couple mostly about the few Phoenix’s who had actually died and not resurrected., such as Flammella, an Igniavi who took in a wounded pirate when their ship crashed on their shores and fell in love so passionately that when he died of old age, she tied his ships anchor to herself and had it drag her, and her loves corpse to the bottom of the sea. It is told as a cautionary tale about the evils of getting to fond of the mortal races. It is also not known if Flammella is still alive at the bottom of the sea, and just in a constant state of revival, though the general consensus is, that it is so dark and cold down there, that by now she would have no energy at all to renew.
Another legend is that of the Rainbow Phoenix, A mutation of sorts that did not last its first regeneration. Famed for being one of the few children to be born of two initials, it had rainbow feathers rather than red and gold, and during his short life was revered. It is told as a tale warning against things changing too fast; mostly ignored.
Legends about living Phoenix’s include Seraph the Red, A pure second generation who is the only pure red Phoenix, her human hair being the deepest of reds with the only gold on her being her claws and eyes in Phoenix form. Her fire is said to burn the hottest of any Igniavi ever. – Currently goes by the name Sera. Others are Quialin, the only Phoenix who ever brandished weapons in human form, in the form of a flaming sword, and Fumexa, the greatest known healer. Both the second and third are currently enthralled.
Does your race have its own religion or just follow the Empire?
Igniavi do not follow any Deities, but do treasure the sun, and always used to hold a festival when the summer and winter solstices happened.
How much was your race involved in trade before, and what was its greatest industry?
Very sparingly, they had no need for clothes, or food and cared little for weapons and crafts, except pretty trinkets, which they rarely sort out.
What is your races greatest weakness?
The cold and dark. They are able to bear the cold so long as it is light, but their energy reserves soon are used up when they cannot access heat, or better still the sun. They are also drawn to powerful things, part of the reason they secluded themselves was to stamp down on this, as it was a bad trait for immortality. It is part of the reason they were so easily enthralled by the Elder Gods, because they were drawn to their immense power. For the three that remain, it is a struggle to not succumb, helped only by the slave collars they still wear.
