If it is cultural leanings then we should add more... like art. And.... stuff.

Yeah.. I donno. We might want to avoid that. or at any rate arguable Art is not a trait that factors into the survival of a race of Birdmen, or whatever.
I'm also not clear on like, to what extent these figures are going to come into play? will Technology stats be compared and rolled? Or are they just broad guidelines to give us a sense of things, and insure that things are relatively equal across races (So you can't be technology wizards with magic, and lots of them, and be really good at fighting, and have lots of get rich quick schemes.

I think it is more the latter, to give everything a kind of balance. We do not want any one playing a race out of balance with everyone else. Unless some one really likes playing Redneck Bovine people.

Could be a combination of both inherent talent and cultural leanings? For example:
Warfare: The ability of an average group of your people to defeat an enemy group. A high score in this category might indicate either a strong military culture (think the ancient Spartans or Mongols) or a natural fighting ability (a race that is bigger and stronger than most others).
Magic: The breadth and depth of magical power available to those in your group who are magically inclined. A high score in this category might indicate either a culture geared toward studying the arcane, or a race with significant inborn magical talents.
etc.

Okay. So Then I think we are okay with something like this:
Population: Technology: Magic: Warfare: Education: Economy: (which would include both skill with Trading, and also agriculture and other economic issues.

How does education differ from magic and technology? Why is it a useful skill to have?

Well, for starter's its not really a skill. But I intended it to explain the difference between like, a race of Goblins who successfully build bizarre contraptions despite routinely blowing themselves up (high technology low education) and a group of philosophers who are extremely intelligent, and maintaing access to history and lore, but don't necessarily have either magic or technology.

Education is more like a measure of culture knowledge I think.

Okay, I get that. But the goal should be to make every stat (skill, ability... whatever these are being called) desirable in some way, shouldn't it? And all of the others give you something concretely useful. Knowing about history and philosophy and mathematics is all good in the real world, but I do not see how it would help a fledgling group of refugees in a concrete way without butting in on one of the other categories.

How about instead of Economy we call it "Industry", and it reflects the general industriousness of your people? So that could include agriculture, trade, building, constructing etc.
so a low Industry would mean a race that was prone to indulgence. so like Giant Ants have Industry 90, and the SlothHedonists have Industry 20

Well, I think it would be useful for things not covered. How do they do with things like.. cartography? Can they predict the weather? Determine how to tell what plants are poisonous? When they discover the mysterious tablet from the lost civlization that Smith reveals, do they decipher it,or do they start trying to smash it with a piece of bone and throw poop at each other?
